Water well project

About the Project

Since 2007, due to requests of helping people from the tourists who came to visit Angkor Wat, I have managed and brought their generous donations to the people in the remote areas. This Clean Water Project focuses mainly on the poorer of Cambodian who generally encounter problems of getting clean water and/or lack of water for daily consumption. The purpose of the project is to improve the water quality and to minimize the impacts to people’ health.

The Clean Water Project includes three basic elements: (1) eliminating consumption of unclean water overflows from surrounding areas (2) improvement of health care and (3) enhancement of people livelihoods.

(1)     Eliminating consumption of unclean water overflows from surrounding area: The people living in the rural areas are farmers whose houses built on stilts and mostly surrounded by rice fields. The cattle are maintained under the house at night where their excrement remained at place every day. Further more, the people have not any toilet and they usually go into the shrub or in the field surrounding the house for defecating. While the water well is traditionally dug near the house, which its elevation is as same as the ground’s level. In connection with the rainy season, the rainwater flows into the well bringing along with unhygienic and contaminated water.

(2)   Improvement of health care:

The Clean Water Project implements in targeted areas within Siem Reap province in order to address the water quality impacts. The project aims at eliminating any sewage overflows as well as contaminated water from other areas into wells. On the other hand, it will improve better welfare and living standards of people in rural villages.

The overall project is donated by generous persons from some countries including United States, and Canada. This project has been funded and is being pursued more generous donations in the future. This donation is part of assistance of the government with diminishing poverty in the rural areas.
